Historic Charm with Sweet Rewards

Tucked along Route 6A in Brewster, MA, the Brewster Scoop serves up scoops of nostalgia alongside its premium ice cream. This charming shop combines Cape Cod history with cool treats that locals and visitors line up for each summer.

How It All Started

The Brewster Scoop began in 1993 as a small venture behind the historic Brewster Store (which dates back to 1866). Ice cream isn’t new to this spot – back in the 1920s, an earlier ice cream parlor operated here before closing during the Great Depression. In 2009, the Scoop moved to its current home in the former Brewster Post Office building next to the main store, where it continues to grow in popularity.

What’s On The Menu

The shop offers over 30 flavors of rich, old-fashioned ice cream with creative mix-ins. Some standouts include:

  • “Campfire S’mores” – toasted marshmallow ice cream swirled with graham cracker and chocolate chunks
  • “Graham Central Station” – graham cracker-flavored ice cream loaded with milk chocolate-covered honeycomb
  • “Cowabunga Crunch” – vanilla base packed with chocolate chips, cookie pieces, toffee, pecans, and caramel

Beyond basic scoops, they serve:

  • Classic sundaes topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, and cherries
  • Frappes (ice cream blended with milk and syrup)
  • Floats like the Black Cow (vanilla ice cream with Coca-Cola)
  • Seasonal flavors that rotate throughout summer

Fun Facts and Stories

  • The original 19th-century building was a Universalist church before becoming a general store
  • Customers can sit on historic church benches that were repurposed from Chatham
  • The shop operates seasonally (Memorial Day to Labor Day) with extended weekend hours
  • Like many classic Cape Cod spots, Brewster Scoop maintains a cash-only policy
  • The shop is run by the same family that owns the neighboring Brewster Store and Strawberry Patch gift shop

Brewster Scoop serves as more than just an ice cream stop – it’s a community hub where visitors can enjoy a sweet treat while soaking in a piece of Cape Cod heritage. Its connection to the historic Brewster Store makes it a perfect spot for those looking to combine dessert with a taste of New England’s past.
