A Historic Spot with Modern Flair
Pleasant Lake Pizza Shark brings new life to the 150-year-old Pleasant Lake General Store in Harwich. Opened in July 2020 by owners Josh and Sarah Koopman along with Todd Montgomery, this shark-themed pizzeria transformed a shuttered sandwich shop into a local hotspot. They initially started as an ice cream stand “to cover the rent” before expanding to pizza.
What Makes It Special
The shop combines several appealing elements:
- Artisan pizzas with house-prepared toppings like roasted chicken and sautéed veggies
- Hand-scooped Gifford’s Ice Cream served from a walk-up window
- Penny candy and snacks for a touch of nostalgia
- Beer and wine to go, featuring Italian wines and local brews
On busy Friday nights, their conveyor-belt ovens can crank out up to 400 pizzas, each with a 6-minute bake time.
Fun Touches
Pleasant Lake Pizza Shark has created buzz with:
- A catchy cartoon jingle voiced by Cape Cod musician Chandler Travis
- Shark-themed merchandise (their embroidered beanies and hoodies were even spotted on actress Meghann Fahy from The White Lotus)
- Interactive promotions where kids color shark logos on pizza boxes for free ice cream
Perfect Location
Sitting right next to the Cape Cod Rail Trail, the shop draws hungry cyclists and tourists alike. They’re open year-round, seven days a week from 10 AM to 9 PM, making them a reliable stop regardless of when you visit.
The business has expanded to three locations across Cape Cod: the original in Harwich, plus additional shops in Dennis (614 Main St) and inside Chatham’s Orpheum Theater. Each location offers the same signature shark theme and quality pizza, with the theater location featuring expanded menu options.
