A Brewster Tradition Under New Ownership

The Cape House at 284 Paine’s Creek Rd in Brewster carries on the legacy of Kate’s Fried Seafood & Ice Cream, a beloved spot that served the Cape for 39 years. In 2024, founders Kathy and John Ohman sold the business to professional chefs Izabelle and Robert Crisanti, who renamed it but promised to keep its cherished traditions alive.

What Makes It Special

The menu continues to feature the favorites that made Kate’s famous:

  • Captain’s Club Sandwich with lightly fried cod and bacon
  • Classic beer-battered fish and chips
  • Customer-favorite onion rings
  • Huge ice cream cones in traditional flavors

The new owners have added a seasonal beer and wine license while maintaining the core menu that locals and tourists have enjoyed for decades.

The Experience

This casual, family-friendly spot has been the setting for countless summer memories over nearly four decades. Its iconic black cat mascot, Casper, became so recognizable that wooden souvenir replicas were sold as Cape Cod décor items.

A Landmark Location

The shop’s position on Paine’s Creek Road makes it a convenient stop for beachgoers and tourists exploring the Cape. During busy periods, overflow parking is available at Betty’s Curve, the town-owned lot across the street.

While the name has changed to The Cape House, the Crisantis are honoring the history and traditions that made Kate’s a Cape Cod institution. They understand that for many families, a visit to this spot has been a vacation tradition passed down through generations.
