Historic Corner Finds New Life

The Good Shoppe opened in July 2024 at 10 Oak Bluffs Avenue, bringing new energy to a historic building with a bright yellow storefront. The shop sits near the famous Flying Horses Carousel in a spot that once housed Shipwrecked Tallman’s peanut stand in the 19th century. The creative team behind the shop wanted to honor this history while creating something fresh and fun.

The building was carefully fixed up to keep its vintage feel while adding modern touches. With checkered floors and pastel colors, the shop looks both old-fashioned and current at the same time.

Global Treats Meet Homemade Goodies

The Good Shoppe offers a mix of candies from around the world alongside treats made in-house:

  • Soft-Serve Ice Cream: Simple vanilla and chocolate swirls, often topped with rainbow sprinkles or their own hot fudge
  • The Good Cookie: Big, fresh-baked cookies in changing flavors like brown butter chocolate chunk and sea salt caramel
  • Italian Ice: Brought in from Connecticut, these fruit-flavored ices give a tart option alongside the sweet treats

The shop brings in special candies from across the United States and Sweden, including harder-to-find treats like salmiak licorice and lingonberry gummies. Coffee drinks and cold brew are also available for morning visitors.

A Welcoming Space for Everyone

The Good Shoppe makes a point of being friendly to all guests. The shop plays “good vibes” music playlists that match its upbeat mood. Even though it opened quickly just months after securing the space, it was ready in time for Oak Bluffs’ busy summer season.

Where Past Meets Present

The smell of sugar and the vintage look bring back childhood memories for many visitors. People often stop in after riding the nearby Flying Horses Carousel, creating a new tradition in a historic setting.

Located just steps from busy Circuit Avenue, The Good Shoppe serves both tourists looking for Martha’s Vineyard-themed taffy and locals wanting an after-dinner treat.

The shop currently has limited indoor seating, so most people take their treats to nearby parks. More outdoor seating with picnic tables is planned for future seasons.

While The Good Shoppe faces competition from other ice cream places like Mad Martha’s and Ben & Bill’s, it stands out with its focus on candy and its welcoming, vintage atmosphere.
