The Story Behind the Shop
Whistle Stop Ice Cream started in 1983 and has become a Cape Cod favorite. You can find it at 430 Shore Road in Monument Beach (some call it Pocasset area), right next to railroad tracks and near a beach.
In 2019, Don and Wanda Myers bought the business. They expanded by opening a second shop at Mashpee Commons a few years later. The shop only closes for a short time in February so workers can get ready for the new season in March.
What Makes Their Ice Cream Special
What makes Whistle Stop stand out is their homemade ice cream made right there in the shop. They offer more than 40 flavors of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet. Everything is made from scratch with care.
The shop is famous for their “Smokestack” – a tall treat with layers of different ice cream flavors, whipped cream, and toppings served in a clear cup. This eye-catching dessert has earned them the nickname “Home of the Smokestack.”
They also make “Wanda’s Whim” – custom ice cream cakes and pies – and ice cream cookie sandwiches. They even have dog-friendly ice cream with a biscuit, so your four-legged family members can enjoy a treat too!

From Finance Jobs to Ice Cream Dreams
Before buying Whistle Stop in 2019, Don and Wanda Myers worked tough finance jobs in Providence and Boston. They spent hours driving and traveling for work. Looking for a better life, they wanted a family business where they could work together, be creative, and stay in a community they loved.
When looking at local businesses for sale, Whistle Stop Ice Cream caught their eye right away. They fell in love with the mix of homemade ice cream, trains, and the beach location.
Switching from corporate finance to making ice cream has been an exciting learning journey for them. They keep making classic flavors while creating one-of-a-kind treats. Many ingredients in their homemade ice cream are also homemade, including cookies and brownies that Wanda bakes herself.
Trains, Treats, and Memories
The name “Whistle Stop” comes from the shop’s spot next to railroad tracks, and this train theme runs throughout the store. One of the coolest features is the model train display that runs around the ceiling of the seating area, creating a fun mood that kids and adults love.
The shop has teamed up with others in the area. Their homemade ice cream is sold by “Sea Scoops,” a boat-based ice cream service that brings Whistle Stop’s treats to people by sea in West Falmouth Harbor and at Bassetts Island in Bourne.
Many people have made lasting memories at Whistle Stop over the years. The shop has indoor and outdoor seating, plus a takeout window with curbside pickup.
